Hypersomnia

 

 

Hypersomnia is characterized by an excessive amount of sleepiness resulting in the inability to stay awake.

  • A person is considered to have hypersomnia if he or she sleeps more than 10 hours per day on a regular basis for at least two weeks.
  • Demonstrates a consistent inability to remain awake in typical everyday situations such as traveling as a passenger in a car, watching TV, listening to a lecture, or reading a newspaper.

    Prescribed medication can control this disorder.
